Wednesday, Oct. 21st, 2026 - "Drawing Near"
John 1:47-51 — When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.” “How do you know me?” Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.” Then Nathanael declared, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.” Jesus said “You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that.” He then added, “Very truly I tell you, you will see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on’ the Son of Man.”
Nathanael did not wait to be found. He moved toward Jesus, and in that movement, Jesus spoke directly into his life. The miracle of being known by God is not reserved for a distant future — it begins the moment you take a step toward him. Many believers spend their lives hoping God will show up in a dramatic moment, yet they have stopped moving in His direction.
The presence of God does not feel distant because He has moved. It feels distant because we have stopped drawing near. Today, take one deliberate step toward him, and watch how much he already knows about you. Take time today to not just ask God for things, but simply to move toward him through silence, scripture, and worship. Let drawing near be the goal!
